University and State Employees Credit Union (USE) was originally founded in 1936 as California State Credit Union #17. The main focus behind is was helping employees of the San Diego branch of the Division of Highways. The Credit Union became known as University & State Employees Credit Union in the 1970s to better reflect its expanded legacy of serving the financial needs of university and state employees. Finally, in 1999, the charter was expanded again to include members of the entire community.
Today, USE Credit Union serves five counties in California, including Alameda, Sacramento, San Diego, Santa Clara and Yolo. In fact, it is the 5th largest credit union where it is headquartered in San Diego County.
